Travel to Leadville
Leadville is located 103 miles west of Denver via I-70.
129 miles northwest of Colorado Springs via U.S. Highway 24. All of the
highways in Lake County have been designated by the State of Colorado
as the Top of the Rockies Scenic and Historic Byway. Highway 24 North
is also the Tenth Mountain Division Memorial Highway. Leadville/Lake County
can be reached by automobile or by flying into Denver, Colorado Springs
or the Eagle County Airport. Car rentals are available at the airports.
Private transportation arrangements may also be made.
The Lake County Airport does not have commercial service
but can be accessed by private craft.
Leadville can be reached from Denver via I-70 and Colorado
Highway 91 or from Colorado Springs via US Highway 24.

Leadville is in the Central Colorado Rocky Mountains
at 10,152 feet above sea level. The atmosphere contains less oxygen the
higher you go. Drink plenty of water and pace yourself so you can enjoy
all that the high country has to offer. October can be the most spectacular
month for viewing Aspen leaves and Leadville averages 310 days of sunshine
each year. However, at this elevation you should be prepared for variable
weather conditions. The average high during the day is 52 degrees, dropping
to around 25 degrees at night.
Dress in Leadville is casual dress as you would like
and be comfortable. It is cool in October so you may want to bring a sweater,
warm jacket, gloves, hat and rain gear. Plus don't forget the sunscreen.
